Twitter: How to Get More Followers

Posted May 16, 2013 By AllieCooper

Twitter is an indispensable social media tool to share information quickly and in a concisely. It has proven itself as a worthy mainstay in the social media world and its popularity has immensely grown over the years, averaging up to 500,000,000 users to date. This mobile app is accessible to anyone who has mobile phones and tablets powered by Android, iOS and Windows. App compatibility is not an issue.

Based on statistics as of the end of October, Lady Gaga finally bagged first place and took over Justin Bieber’s reign on the top spot by gathering over 30 million twitter followers.  And here’s how you can get more chirp from your tweet.

 Strut your feathers

Don’t leave your profile blank. Try making it more personal, more you! Add photos and play with some colours. Spice up your bio and write some interesting stuff about yourself. People don’t respond well to faceless, anonymous profiles. Unless you want to make yourself see mysterious a laNatalee Holloway but then tweeting probably isn’t for you.

On the wing

Tweet on the go with your mobile phone. Interestingly, 43% of twitter users access their twitter via smart phones compared with just over 30% for Facebook.

Tweeting is cheap

So don’t be shy to engage in conversation. A burden shared is a care lessened. Good news needs friends. Twitter is about sharing so have a natter and be free with your links and re-tweets. Build active conversation and rapport with your followers.

Have good chat

Create and build conversations as well as be open to expanding your circle. People don’t want to feel like they are being sold something all the time so be careful not to come across too pushy especially if you own your business.

Birds of the same feather flock together

Embrace the twitter language. Tweet @ people and start trending topics using hash tags. They are also useful reference points for people following your conversation.

Have a discerning eye

Yes, hash tags are great. Love them to bits and they are a great way of promoting your site but don’t make a hash of it otherwise you will dilute their worth. You also might come across a bit juvenile if you overload your tweets with too many random links or symbols.

One team, One dream

Twitter is a social hub. If you have friends or associates, that are active tweeters, work together to build each other’s followship.

Use #FF (follow Friday) people tweet and recommend followers they like every Friday. Be nice and genuine and promote others too, recommend your fave tweeters to others.

Nurture your media empire

Even Murdoch had to start from somewhere. Connect your burgeoning media dominion together and make it easy for people to follow you, use your personalized URL and add your twitter handle to your emails, blog posts and the like.

Direct your bird song

With so many tweeters out there you can have your audience flutter away to another post. Tweet @people to get their attention. But be careful not to habitually tweet random rants, it’s a major turn-off.

All tweets on deck

Tweetdeck is a good app to use in managing your tweets. It aids you in organizing your followers as well as those you are following. Making group lists and designating specific keywords can help you sort out your tweets automatically. So when people mention you in a tweet or shared interests, it is easily noticeable and lets you respond in a jiffy.

So there you have it. Follow these tips and make your way to twitter stardom.

Use Pinterest to Increase Blog Hits

Posted May 13, 2013 By irene

Social media sites and social sharing sites are all the rage today, and if you want to have the most success with your blog, then you are going to want to learn to incorporate these sites as much as possible. Fortunately, it is not very difficult, and you will find that it can be fun in many cases. Pinterest is one of the most popular social sites today, and it’s quite easy to use. Quite a few blogs are starting to use Pinterest with success, and you might want to follow their lead. Getting more traffic is not too difficult, and these tips could help you.

Sharing Pictures

When you want to increase traffic to your blog, you are going to want to make sure that you are sharing a substantial amount of content on your Pinterest boards. You want to share content that you have, as well as content from others. You want to work on creating high quality boards that have a focus, so that people who are searching for a particular genre or topic will be able to find your board.

If you create good boards, and you pin your own content from your blog, as well as other content, the people who visit your boards will likely check out your blog, which is going to increase traffic.

If you want to add a blog post to Pinterest, then you are going to need to have at least one picture on it. You are going to want to make sure that it is a good, high quality picture that is going to make people want to click through and see what you are offering on your own blog. When you have great images, they can do a lot for your blog whether someone finds the site via a search engine or on Pinterest.

Be creative when you are posting your own images, and make sure that they are actually relevant to your blog posts. For example, if you make handmade jewelry, take photos of the jewelry, but think outside of the box with the photos that you are taking. You could take photos of the jewelry on a model, amongst still life, and in some surprising ways. You can do this with just about any product or even service if you are running a business.

You have plenty of options with Pinterest, and now you can see how it might even be able to help you boost the number of visitors to your blog.

How to Create a Facebook Page for Your Blog

Posted April 8, 2013 By Adeel Zia

Every aspiring blogger knows the importance of marking their work through social media. Social media is a proven method that has the potential to drive a massive amount of visitors to your blog. There are many different social media sites you can market on, and almost as many ways to do it.

For this article, I’m going to focus on the big one, Facebook. I’m also going to focus just on one important aspect of your Facebook marketing campaign. It’s one I see many people having trouble with, creating a Facebook page for your blog. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Start by visiting http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php.
  2. On this page, you will be given a choice of categories for your new Facebook page. It’s important to select the category that best represents your product, which in this case is a website. You’ll find “Website” listed under the Brand or Product heading. Select website from the dropdown, enter the name of your blog and click “Get Started”.
  3. If you’re not already signed into your Facebook account, you’ll be prompted to login at this point. If you don’t have a Facebook account, you’ll have the option to create one.
  4. Now you’ll be asked to add a profile picture to your blog. You can use a logo, if you have one. If it’s a personal blog or you’re branding your website with your own name, a professional headshot would be a good choice. You’re given the option to upload it from your computer or import it from a website. Click Save.
  5. The next page is where you’ll tell people about your website. Use a well-written description with good SEO. Is says right on the page that this information will be used for search engine indexing. Click Save.
  6. Now you’ll be directed to your new Facebook page. You’re almost finished.
  7. You’ll be prompted to be the first person to “Like” your page. Go for it. Someone has to be first. It should be you. It’s also the first step to spreading the word as the “Like” will be posted to your newsfeed.
  8. The next prompt asks you to share something. This is a great place for a welcome message or an introduction to yourself or your mission. It will be the first thing posted to your new page.

You’re new page is complete. From here you have all kinds of options for promoting your blog and customizing your Facebook page. The admin panel makes it easy to invite all of your Facebook friends with a few clicks. It also gives you stats on visitors and highlights new messages and “Likes” that your page has received.

The last thing I need to recommend that you do is upload a cover photo. You’re not prompted to do so anywhere in the building process, which I think is an oversight, and I see many pages with no cover photo.

Select anything you want for your cover photo, but make sure it’s relevant to your blog and captures as much essence of your work as possible. It also needs to be high-resolution so it looks sharp.

Follow these simple guidelines and get your social marketing campaign off to a good start. From here, you can explore all of the other options for marketing through Facebook. At the same time, you’re using your new Facebook page to collect likes, interact with readers and generate traffic.

How To: Change Admin Roles in Facebook Pages

Posted July 12, 2012 By Ganesh Babu

Facebook silently introduced a new feature some time ago, that will let you change admin roles in Facebook Pages. Previously, when you add extra admins to your page, all of them would have complete control over the page. There were many cases in which the person added second, removed the first person and claimed owenership of the page. This new addition will preent all those and will help in effectively managing your facebook pages.

With the availability of different admin roles, you can add your whole team to your Facebook page and each and everyone one of them can contribute to it.

There are 5 different roles availables. They are Manager, Content creator, Moderator, Advertiser and Insights Analyst. The names are self-explanatory. Manager is the ultimate role, who can do almost anything with the page. Content creator is next to Manager in power, he can’t change the admin roles but he can do other stuff. Moderator can delete comments, create ads and view insights. Advertiser can add ads and can view the page’s insights. While, the Insights analyst can only see the insights of the particular page.

[adsense]

Hope you got a hang of what each role did, now let us see how to change the admin roles.

Changing Admin Roles in Facebook Pages

  1. Login to your Facebook Account
  2. Go to your Page, and switch to use Facebook as the page.
  3. Click on Edit Page -> Admin Roles at the top.
  4. Once you click on it, you’ll be taken to a page where all the admins of the page will be listed.
  5. You can change the roles by clicking on the drop down below each user.
  6. Once you’re done changing, click on the Save Changes button to finish it.
That’s it, you’re done changing the admin roles. If you didn’t understand it, take a look at the screencast below to get it right.

Hope you were able to make the changes. If you’ve any doubts, let us know through the comments and we’ll help you out. Do share it with your friends who own pages.

Share Dropbox Folders With Facebook Friends [How-To]

Posted July 1, 2012 By Arun Sathiya

Pen drives and external hard disk drives are the thing of the past now. Sharing stuff over the cloud services is the latest trend. There are lots of cloud storage services out there and Dropbox seems the best in the niche. Google Drive and SkyDrive are some of the fierce competitors to Dropbox. There are other services too like Box, iCloud and a lot more.

One of the peculiar things of Dropbox is the shared folder concept. On Dropbox, you can easily create a folder and invite your friends to join it and thus make it a shared folder. A file stored in the shared folder gets synced between your computer and your friends’ computers easily. Thus sharing stuff between people becomes a lot more easier.

[googleads]

And getting on to the topic, Dropbox has recently announced a brand new concept of sharing folders with your Facebook friends. Now, lets see how that works.

Inviting Facebook Friends to a Dropbox Folder

  • Log into your Dropbox account.
  • Head to Account Settings and link your Facebook account.
  • Come back to Dropbox home.
  • Right click the folder that you want to share and click “Invite to Folder“.
  • In the “Invite collaborators to this folder” section, type the name of your Facebook friend and Dropbox will populate his Facebook ID. Click on it.
Sharing Dropbox Folder With Facebook Friends
  • Finally add a personal message below in the available box.
  • Click on “Share Folder“.
  • Wait till your friend joins! :-)

That’s it. The shared folder is now created. Once your Facebook friend joins the folder, you guys can easily drop in files in that folder to share stuff. If you aren’t on Dropbox yet, join Dropbox with this link and we both get 500MB for free!

What do you think about this new Dropbox feature? A lovely one, agree? If you find any troubles while inviting your Facebook friend, feel free to drop in a comment or contact with us personally over here.

Show Rage Faces on Facebook Chat [How-To]

Posted June 30, 2012 By Ganesh Babu

Rage comics and troll faces are all over the web right now. All those old witty jokes are now re-written in the troll language. What is so awesome is that, now you can add Rage faces on Facebook chat. We’ve seen before about how to add profile pictures of people and pages in Facebook chat.

We’ve been getting mails about adding rage faces on Facebook chat. So, we’ve compiled a list to let you know this.

We’ve listed the id’s of pages with Rage faces as profile pictures. So, you can use those to show rage faces on Facebook chat.

[adsense]

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME: [[Are-you-fucking-kidding-me]]
Cereal Guy: [[cereal-guy]]
Challenge accepted: [[100002727365206]]
Derpina: [[Derpina]]
Feel like a sir: [[Feel-like-a-sir]]
Forever Alone: [[Forever-Alone]]
LOL Face: [[LOL]]
Me Gusta: [[me-gusta-meme]]
Mother of God: [[Madredediosoficial]]
NO Guy: [[NO-MEME]]
Not Bad: [[NotBaad]]
Okay face: [[100002752520227]]
Poker face: [[Poker-Face]]
Rage face: [[FUUUOFFICIAL]]
Socially awkward penguin: [[Socially-Awkward-Penguin]]
Troll face: [[Trooolll.Face]]
Yao Ming: [[Yao-Ming-face]]

All of you’ve to do is, copy the id corresponding to that of the rage comic face that you are in need of, and paste it in your Facebook chat. You can bookmark this page for quick reference, else save this picture to your computer.

The Rage emoticons are not big enough to be used often. But a few of them, like the troll face are big enough to convey the meaning. If you want to create your own meme faces, just create a page or profile with the corresponding rage face as the profile picture and use the user/page id of the page as above.

It is advised that you use a page for this purpose, bacause if you use profile, it is likely to be deleted by Facebook in the future. If you’ve already created something like this, let us know and we’ll add it to this list.

We will update this list later with future additions. Stay tuned.

Did you like this list ? Do you want a particular rage face to be added to this list ? Let us know through the comments and we’ll add them for you ! :-)

We all do a lot of work on the internet and almost all our social networking accounts are interlinked to each other. With lots of social networking accounts in hands, we tend to update the same bio, profile picture and other stuff across all accounts, right? In such situations, we are prone to getting tired to change the same everywhere. Why not automate those?

If someone tagged you in a photo on Facebook, can we program an application to automatically send the photo to our Dropbox account? If we change the profile photo on Facebook, can the same be updated in Twitter without our manual job? Can we send Instagram photos to Facebook, Dropbox account or to our email automatically? The answers to all these questions is Yes, and the thing needed is IFTTT.

[googleads]

On starting with IFTTT, everything might seem very new and hard. But the thing is that the underlying concept is really simple and easy and coupled with this guide, creating tasks and working with IFTTT becomes an easy job. :-)

What’s IFTTT and How it Works?

IFTTT is a pretty cool web application or service that lets you set tasks called “Recipes”. The “Recipes” are basically built by two things. The “Triggers” and the “Actions”. You can set the input as the “Trigger” and the output as the “Action”.

Example : If you want to send photos from Facebook to your Dropbox account every time you are tagged, the “Trigger” is “Every time you are tagged in a photo on Facebook” and the “Action” is “Send to Dropbox”. Get the logic behind IFTTT?

What are Channels?

Channels are the basic building blocks of IFTTT. There are various channels like Facebook, Dropbox, Twitter, Email, RSS Feed, Weather, Instagram, Foursquare, Gmail, Google Reader, SMS and a lot more. Each channel has it’s own “Triggers” and “Actions”.

Creating Your First Recipe

This 7 steps process is really simple and in this short guide to create a “Recipe”, let us consider creating a task of sending the tagged photos in Facebook directly to Dropbox account.

#Step 1 – Choosing Trigger Channel

The first step while creating a “Recipe” is to select the “Trigger” channel. Once you land in the Create Recipe page, you will have to click on the bold this to display the list of “Trigger” channels available.

If This Then That Trigger

If you choosing a channel, you will have to authorize for the first time. Now, in the list of available channels, click on Facebook and link to your Facebook account.

Choosing Trigger Channel

#Step 2 – Choosing the Trigger

Now, we have to select the “Trigger” from the list of available options. As for Facebook “Triggers” in IFTTT, there are 5 options for us. They are -

  1. New status message by you
  2. New link post by you
  3. You upload a new photo
  4. You are tagged in a photo
  5. Your profile changes

It’s our job to select one “Trigger” among these. As for this tutorial, let us select the fourth “Trigger”, that’s the “You are tagged in a photo”.

Choose a Trigger

#Step 3 – Complete Trigger Fields

This section is where you have to add details of your “Trigger”. For “Trigger” channels like RSS you will have the option to enter the RSS feed address here and once you are done with filling the necessary fields, click on the “Create Trigger” button.

As for now, we don’t have any field to fill since Facebook “Triggers” don’t come with any fields. Just linking your Facebook account to Facebook Channel will do good.

With this done, we have defined our “Trigger”. Now, it’s time to define our “Action”. Now click the bold that to define your “Action”.

If Facebook Then That Action

#Step 4 – Choose Action Channel

Like you did earlier, you will have to choose another channel now but this time for “Action”. Since we want the tagged photos from Facebook to be kept in Dropbox, let us now choose the Dropbox channel. If you are choosing Dropbox for the first time, you will have to authorize once again.

Choose Action Channel

#Step 5 – Choose Action

It’s time to choose the “Action” now. Dropbox has three “Actions”. They are -

  1. Add file from URL
  2. Create a text file
  3. Append to a text file

As for now, we will have to choose “Add file from URL” to download the tagged photo right to our Dropbox account.

Choose an Action

#Step 6 – Complete Action Fields

In this section, we will have to fill int he necessary fields that design the way how photos are pulled from Facebook tagged photos and where they are put in the Dropbox folder.

As for now, we have to fill in the “File URL” and “Dropbox folder path” fields. Filling these fields can be done with the help of special built-in codes called “Ingredients”. The “Ingredients” option is available on the right side of that page in a drop down list.

Select one and add that to the “File URL” field. In the “Dropbox folder path” field, type the necessary folder path where your tagged photos are supposed to be kept in your Dropbox folder.

As per the above image, the tagged photos will be dumped in a folder named “Tagged” inside the folder “Facebook” which is further inside “IFTTT” in the Dropbox folder. Now click on “Create Action”.

Complete Action Fields

#Step 7 – Create and Activate

The algorithm that defines the “Trigger” and “Action” is now set and it’s time for us to add a short description and create the “Recipe”. Once you are done typing the necessary description, click “Create Recipe” and you are done. :-)

Create and Activate

Your Recipe is “On” and The Magic Works

The “Recipe” that you made now has just been turned activated and it’s time for the magic to work! From now on, whenever you are tagged in a photo in Facebook, the photo will automatically find it’s place in your Dropbox too and please be patient. The process will take around 5 minutes to take place and the photo will be in your Dropbox within 5 minutes. I assure you that.

Send Facebook Tagged Photos to Dropbox

Check out Other Popular Recipes

In addition to making your “Recipes”, you can also make use of the “Recipes” made by others. Other popular IFTTT users would have previously made some useful “Recipes” which you can use and activate in your account. Check out the popular “Recipes” here!

Woah! That was cool, agree? In the tiresome Internet world we live in, these kinds of apps are our live savers and prove to lessen our job. What are you up to now? Head to IFTTT and start creating “Recipes” and share them with this world. Make sure to drop in your favorite “Recipes” and “Recipes” made by you here in the comments section.

Guide to Unlock All Golden Eggs in Angry Birds Facebook

Posted June 21, 2012 By Arun Sathiya

Angry Birds is a pretty addictive game that is now thrown wide around across lots of platforms out there. When it comes to gaming, Angry Birds is one of those most loved games of all ages. The game is available for various platforms like computers, mobile phones and even the tablets.

And since a few months or so, the game has made it’s way into the social networking sites too. As of now, Angry Birds is the most played game on Facebook with over 17 million users playing it. This game on Facebook is called by many names. Previously it was called the “Angry Birds Beta” and now it’s called “Angry Birds Friends” due to the new addition of a feature that will let you battle with your friends and win ranks.

Unlock Golden Eggs

Leave all those naming crap away now. We are on to finding and unlock golden eggs now! Also called the “Easter Eggs”, these eggs are hidden all through the games. The eggs can be found in the menus, game levels and in all other eerie places. It’s our job to hunt ‘em all! But, fortunately for you, I’ve made a collection of all those 10 eggs already and here is the list of places where you can find them. Once collected, you’ll find yourself with 10 brand, new, cool levels to play.

Golden Egg 1 : Go to “Shop” –> All in One bundle –> at the left side, above the description of the all in one bundle, you will notice a golden egg. (See Image)

Golden Egg 2 : Go to your “Inbox” and to the left of the button named “Send free gifts” you will find a golden egg. (See Image)

Golden Egg 3 : Go to “Avatar” and the “Bird-O-Matic” section opens up. At the top left lies the basic yet powerful red bird. Once you spot it, you will notice a golden egg just nearby. (See Image)

[googleads]

Golden Egg 4 : The folks from Rovio have kept an egg in the credits section too! Click the “i” button near the “Shop”, “Avatar” and other such buttons. The credits start showing up. Keep a close eye on them. Look for the name “Ari Arnbjornsson” and you’ll see that his “o” has been replaced by a golden egg. It’s yours now! :-)  (See Image)

Golden Egg 5 : Open any level in the game and click on the “?” button. That button can be found in the place of the “i” button that we came across earlier. Once you click it, a set of descriptive images start showing. You can notice a golden egg in the red bird help screen. (See Image)

Golden Egg 6 : In “Surf and Turf – 6″, a golden egg is available nearby a barrel at the bottom right. You will have to move to the right section of the screen to see that and also use a bird to get the egg. (See Image)

Golden Egg 7 : In “Poached Eggs – 3″, you can find a golden egg on the smiley. (See Image)

Golden Egg 8 : In “Poached Eggs – 62″, you can find a golden egg kept at the top right. You will have to zoom out to see that. I suggest you to use a white bird to rocket across and get the egg. (See Image)

Golden Egg 9 : In “Surf and Turf – 37″, make use of a White Bird’s egg bomb to take hold of the golden egg at the bottom left of the screen.

Golden Egg 10 : In “Mighty Hoax – 12″, there is a golden egg at the top right of the screen. Zoom out to see that. Fling a Yellow bird to get the egg.

That’s it. The 10 golden eggs on Angry Birds Facebook are now yours. Go and check out those cool, new, golden levels and have fun Angry Bird’ing! :-)

Create a Facebook Cover Photo Illusion

Posted June 18, 2012 By Ganesh Babu

With the introduction of the Timeline, came Cover photos. Cover photos are like your profile picture in steroids. They give you more space to show something from your life. However, if you want to stand out of the crowd and are not interested in showing a scene or a quote and want to do something cool with that space, you can now.

You can use make your cover photo and profile picture to work in unison and create a wonderful illusion with that. Pick out a part of the timeline as it was a jigsaw puzzle piece and make it your profile picture and lot more. When Facebook introduced a new layout of showing tagged pics, we showed you how to make it cool. Now let’s make our timelines much cooler.

[adsense]

Combine Cover Photo and Profile Picture to Make it Look Like One

  1. Head out to TrickedOutTimeline. Scroll down and click on Merge Profile and Cover Photo.
  2. You’ll be asked to upload a picture from your computer. Timeline dimensions are 851 X 315, so make sure you upload a picture of that proportions to make it look even cooler. You can also login to your Facebook account from there to choose your current profile picture.
  3.  Once the picture is uploaded, you can drag the selection to select which parts should be appearing on your profile picture as wel as your cover photo. You can see a live preview of it, side by side. Once done with it, click Done.
  4. If you haven’t liked their FB page before, you’ll be asked to like it now. You can’t bypass this step. So, do it.

Facebook’s Social Reader let’s you know what your friends are reading or read in the past. Social Reader apps are popular with websites like Guardian, Huffington post, Yahoo etcetera. If you’re friends share a link through any of the social reader apps, then it appears in the respective stream.

When you choose to read a particular shared link and click it, you’ll be taken to a page, where you’ll be asked to install the app. Sometimes, you can click cancel to read the article. But, most of the times you need to install the app to read the article.

[adsense]

There are some articles which you would like to read anonymously. You can always search for the title of the article and then read it. If you install the corresponding app, you might accidentally share what you are reading, even if you are in no mood of sharing it.

So, if you are interested in reading the particular article and don’t wish to accidentally share it with your network in Facebook, there is a chrome extension / firefox plugin named Unsocialize that can help you with it. It helps you read the Social Reader links without installing the apps or any other hassles.

All you have to do is install the Unsocialize for firefox or chrome, then when you right click on the social reader link, in the context menu, there’ll be a new addition called Unsocialize. Click it and then you’ll be taken to the article straight away.

Hope this helped you to get rid of those annoyances. If you liked this simple tool, do share it with your friends. Comment if you have any doubt.
