Twitter: How to Get More Followers

Posted May 16, 2013 By AllieCooper

Twitter is an indispensable social media tool to share information quickly and in a concisely. It has proven itself as a worthy mainstay in the social media world and its popularity has immensely grown over the years, averaging up to 500,000,000 users to date. This mobile app is accessible to anyone who has mobile phones and tablets powered by Android, iOS and Windows. App compatibility is not an issue.

Based on statistics as of the end of October, Lady Gaga finally bagged first place and took over Justin Bieber’s reign on the top spot by gathering over 30 million twitter followers.  And here’s how you can get more chirp from your tweet.

 Strut your feathers

Don’t leave your profile blank. Try making it more personal, more you! Add photos and play with some colours. Spice up your bio and write some interesting stuff about yourself. People don’t respond well to faceless, anonymous profiles. Unless you want to make yourself see mysterious a laNatalee Holloway but then tweeting probably isn’t for you.

On the wing

Tweet on the go with your mobile phone. Interestingly, 43% of twitter users access their twitter via smart phones compared with just over 30% for Facebook.

Tweeting is cheap

So don’t be shy to engage in conversation. A burden shared is a care lessened. Good news needs friends. Twitter is about sharing so have a natter and be free with your links and re-tweets. Build active conversation and rapport with your followers.

Have good chat

Create and build conversations as well as be open to expanding your circle. People don’t want to feel like they are being sold something all the time so be careful not to come across too pushy especially if you own your business.

Birds of the same feather flock together

Embrace the twitter language. Tweet @ people and start trending topics using hash tags. They are also useful reference points for people following your conversation.

Have a discerning eye

Yes, hash tags are great. Love them to bits and they are a great way of promoting your site but don’t make a hash of it otherwise you will dilute their worth. You also might come across a bit juvenile if you overload your tweets with too many random links or symbols.

One team, One dream

Twitter is a social hub. If you have friends or associates, that are active tweeters, work together to build each other’s followship.

Use #FF (follow Friday) people tweet and recommend followers they like every Friday. Be nice and genuine and promote others too, recommend your fave tweeters to others.

Nurture your media empire

Even Murdoch had to start from somewhere. Connect your burgeoning media dominion together and make it easy for people to follow you, use your personalized URL and add your twitter handle to your emails, blog posts and the like.

Direct your bird song

With so many tweeters out there you can have your audience flutter away to another post. Tweet @people to get their attention. But be careful not to habitually tweet random rants, it’s a major turn-off.

All tweets on deck

Tweetdeck is a good app to use in managing your tweets. It aids you in organizing your followers as well as those you are following. Making group lists and designating specific keywords can help you sort out your tweets automatically. So when people mention you in a tweet or shared interests, it is easily noticeable and lets you respond in a jiffy.

So there you have it. Follow these tips and make your way to twitter stardom.

When it comes to social marketing tools, Twitter is one of the best any business can adopt. The popular microblogging site has well over 200 million users and trendiness that has made it a favorite among users that range from everyday people to the high profile athletes and celebrities.

Not only that, it has long proved itself as a powerful platform capable of building communities, engaging target audiences, and driving qualified traffic. From a marketing perspective, the one knock on Twitter has always lied in the difficulty of tracking its activity, but even this appears to be changing for the better.

[adsense]

Twitter recently announced the debut of  Twitter Web Analytics. As the name implies, it is a new tool designed to help users gain a much better understanding of how their social marketing efforts are performing through connection with the platform. Up until recently, marketers have been forced to rely on third-party tools that while useful, were not very efficient in terms of accurately measuring traffic. With an analytics system launched by Twitter itself, it is safe to assume that this tool will be far more precise and reliable than many of the third-party options out there.

Analyzing Your Twitter Impact

According to Twitter itself, social marketers can take advantage of the new web analytics tool by analyzing three main performance area:

Inbound Traffic – See exactly how much traffic Twitter is generating to your website.

Social Sharing – See how much of your content others are sharing throughout the Twitter network.

Integration Effectiveness – Analyze the impact integrating the famous tweet button on your website has really made.

As you can see, the new Twitter Web Analytics can be helpful in measuring some very important areas, but the one that really sticks out is inbound traffic. Whether you are indulging in social marketing to boost sales or create awareness for a non profit cause, driving traffic is vital. With that said, being able to understand what is and what isn’t working is just as important. When your efforts are not resulting in direct sales or donations, it can be hard to justify carrying on with your social initiatives. Analytics allows you to do away with all the guessing and base your marketing on actual and factual data. With the tool being powered by social analytics platform BackType’s technology, which Twitter recently acquired, the company’s new and improved tracking capabilities may be the solution marketers have been eagerly awaiting for some time.

Be on the Lookout

Twitter Web Analytics has been rolled out to a small group of Twitter’s pilot partners. The company says that it will be available to all site owners in the coming weeks. Aside from being pretty useful, this tracking tool is completely free to use, and that makes it even more attractive for the social marketer operating on a restricted budget. If you have been looking for a better way to track your efforts on this immensely popular social network, the new analytics tool will definitely be one you want to pick up.

Happy 6th Birthday, Twitter!

Posted March 21, 2012 By Arun Sathiya

That’s it. 5 years have flew since Jack Dorsey was seen to be setting up his Twitter account. That’s way back 5 years and now, Twitter is one of those hottest social networking sites the world has ever seen. As of now, Twitter has millions of users and if it surprises you, did you ever know that a stunning count of 340 million tweets is sent a day? Be it sharing some crazy information or sharing the breaking news with other people, Twitter has by far been the first in the place. And for your info, Twitter has a small community of 400 dedicated workers yet it is one of the biggest tech giants the world has ever seen.

[googleads]

As we all know, Jack Dorsey was the first one ever to tackle the nearly impossible to answer question by the microblogging site, What’s happening? Though the site provides a maximum of 160 characters for one tweet, Jack Dorsey tackled the question by replying a short answer “just setting up my twttr“. That was sent on March 21 of the year 2006 by the Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.

And now, the site has vastly grown with lots of users tweeting about everything in this world. As mentioned earlier, Twitter has done a commendable job of being the world’s fastest news spreading site. Did you ever know that Twitter announced the death of the American pop star Michael Jackson 45 minutes earlier than the press did?

Finally, to put in short words, though Twitter provides users only with the option to tweet about stuff with a limited characters of 160 characters, it has proved itself to be really effective. If you ever came across a celebrity and bumped him or her with a question, the most likely answer would be to check out his or her Twitter handle. These days, most of the celebrities seem to be focused only with Twitter when it comes to sharing information on the web. And also, nearly 500K accounts are being created each day on Twitter. Not on Twitter yet? It’s time to join fellas. Come on!

And finally, in short, a really Happy Birthday, Twitter! Have a great year ahead.  :-)

How To: Delete Your Twitter Account

Posted January 6, 2012 By Ganesh Babu

You may want to delete your twitter account for plenty of reasons. To protect your privacy or to sob, since your girlfriend unfollowed you. You may have any reason, but let us get into the point. How do you delete your twitter account ?

[adsense]

Deleting your twitter account is very much easy when compared to that of Facebook. All you have to do is head to the Settings page and look for the “Deactivate my Account” link at the bottom of the page. Alternatively you can follow this link to Delete your Twitter Account.

Twitter will retain your user data for 30 days and then it will be permanently deleted. If you change your mind within this 30 days, then you can reactivate your account by simply logging in. If you want to use this account’s username or email address on another Twitter account, change it before you deactivate. Until the user data is permanently deleted, that information won’t be available for use. So be careful.

Some content related to you might be available on twitter sometime after the deactivation and it will be eventually removed by twitter. Content indexed by search engines like Google won’t be affected by this.

Hope this simple guide helped you to get rid of your twitter account. Tweet this article, before you decide to delete your account. Do follow @axleration and @scifibabu for more tech updates.

New Update in Twitter Timeline

Posted October 26, 2011 By Arun Sathiya

Twitter now has come up with an updated version of the timeline. Though you are regular Twitter user, you will not be familiar with this new update. Even the official Twitter blog doesn’t seem to have any post related to this new change. Till now, it is known that only Patrick Bisch, the founder of Pinglio, got this new timeline. His official blog post lies here.

[googleads]

Earlier the Twitter timeline had all the four buttons : Timestamp, Favorite, Retweet, Reply, at the bottom of each tweet. When you click on a particular tweet, a slider appears on the right side of the screen showing the tweet with the source from which it came and also the media if it has.

But in this new updated version, it seems that the four buttons are pushed to the top right of each tweet. Hovering over the tweet will replace the timestamp with a button named “Open”. When you click on “Open”, the tweet gets isolated from others and opens up right in the timeline and does not appear separately on the right side. If the tweet has any replies or media associated with it, they too will appear below the tweet. Also when you open a tweet, it will show the list of Twitter users who retweeted the tweet in a horizontal line.

And also in this new update, when you click on any user’s Twitter handle, his profile appears in a box that pops up over the main Twitter timeline. It does not appear on the right side slider. And what remains on the right side? Your Twitter info. Your tweets number, your followers and following count and your recent images remain there.

Have you got this new Twitter timeline update? If yes, share your thoughts with us below in the comments section. Make sure to check out Axleration for more.

Twitter Twacked [Infographic]

Posted October 26, 2011 By Arun Sathiya

When it comes to social networking, many of the users are often prone to get hacked by others for two main reasons. One for accessing to other’s profile to get info and the other reason is for pure fun. Hacking into other’s account seems to be a lot fun. But we must be aware of the problems we, the hackers, might get into.

[googleads]

Twitter has got a lot of celebrities tweeting their way to the top. Right from Lady Gaga to Barack Obama, everyone have been tweeting for the past few years, since Twitter’s birth. Now, this below infographic depicts most of the recently hacked celebrities, examines common entry points for hackers and also shows a quite few passwords that ought to be avoided.

First comes the passwords section in this infographic. It is seen that around 401 passwords have been banned by Twitter on July 2011. Back in January 2010, Twitter blocked 370 obvious passwords. 31 passwords have been added to the blocked passwords list in 19 months time.

Next comes the top ten Twitter users of all time. This infographic adds the number of Twitter followers below their name and also adds the date when they were hacked at last. Celebrities on Twitter are no strangers to being hacked. In fact, only 2 of the top 10 celebrities were not hacked even once. Its none other than Shakira and Taylor Swift.

For You : Top 20 Most Followed People On Twitter

Well, the fun part arrives here. It is seen that a hacker dug into Justin Bieber’s account and got his mobile number and later he bombarded him with texts. Will Justin Bieber remain idle? Of course not. To take revenge, he tweeted the hacker’s number on Twitter, which his 4M+ followers (at that time) got. As a result, the hacker was bombarded with 26K+ texts. Tit for tat!
