4 Sites Offering Free Audio Books for iPod & iPhone

iPods and iPhones are mostly associated with apps, games, music and movies. But they can also be used for an entirely different and useful purpose – Hearing Audio Books. Audio books help us hear books while we are on the go. While we are at the gym or while you are out for a walk or while flying in a plane, Audio books can come handy to relieve as from boredom.

Here is a list of four sites which have two things in common, they provide you with high quality audio books and they are free as well. These sites help you gain knowledge and relieve you from boredom at the same time.

1. Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg is the internet’s most well known source of free audio book download. You won’t find the latest books of greatest authors here, but if you are looking for those classic novels, Project Gutenberg is your best source. You can download audio books in MP3, M4B audio book, Speex or Ogg Vorbis formats.

2. PodioBooks

This site is filled with free audio books. It also features books by modern authors but not those big names. It also has some public domain books too. The site is supported by listener donations, most of them going directly to the authors. This site has options to either download the audio book or listen it directly on the site. You can subscribe via podcast to each new chapter as it is released.

3. LibriVox

This community-driven site offers books from the public domain books in audio format which are read by people from all over the world and therefore books are available in many languages. Audio books are available as 64 or 128 kbps MP3s, Ogg Vorbis files, or as M4B audio books. Since these are public domain-only audio books, you can’t find the latest titles here, but if you’re looking for a wide selection of classic titles, LibriVox is a good deal.

4. Books Should Be Free

This site offers only public domain audio books (Books whose authors have been dead or in most cases books which are at least 75 years old). Most of its titles are taken from Project Gutenberg and/or LibriVox. As the site’s name indicates, Audio books here are completely free and can be downloaded either as an MP3 or as a podcast. Titles are offered in many languages too.

Most books in these sites are human read, while a few are machine read. Take your time and choose a good audio book, try it and share your thoughts on how it helped you with us. Hope this list is useful to you ! 🙂
