It was just a few days after the release of iPhone 4S when the users began to report serious battery drainage problem in their handsets. A lot of users reported that, there iPhone’s battery came down in just a few hours time in spite of the minimal usage. It wasn’t as Tim Cook had said in the iPhone 4S launch event. It was said by him that, the battery life in this latest iPhone 4S battery has considerably improved a lot when compared to iPhone 4.
This iPhone 4S is supposed to have 8 hours of 3G talk time, 6 hours of browsing, 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music and 200 hours of standby time. But everything is the other way round.
There were many possible reasons for this battery drainage. A few users suggested that the newly introduced “Notifications System” in iOS 5, the next generation of iOS, to be the main culprit for this battery drainage. With constant pings from social networking sites and email clients, the battery life is sure to come down in seconds.
But it seems the actual culprit is the “Setting Time Zone” feature in the System Services. This feature changes the time automatically with change in the time zone. But the “Setting Time Zone” was found to be in “on” in spite of no change in the location of the user. It is supposed to turn on and change only when the user navigates to another time zone.
Mobile phone’s battery is sure to drain when it comes to locating the location of the phone. To locate the phone’s location, it makes use of WiFi location name, GPU sensor input and much more services. All these processes running the whole day is sure to drain the mobile phone’s battery.
[stextbox id=”info”]Solution to battery drainage[/stextbox]
If you want your iPhone 4S battery to 12+ hours, you better go to System Services and turn of the “Setting Time Zone” feature. Setting if off, will make sure that your iPhone 4S no longer tracks your location and hence your iPhone will stay awake longer than earlier.
iDownloadBlog says “We have tested this method on 4 different iPhone 4S handsets, including an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3GS. All have reported drastically improved battery life after switching “Setting Time Zone” off”
But the problem is your iPhone will no longer have access to changing the time, when you travel abroad with it. You will have to manually change the time.
