Picnik Shuts Down and Gets in Google’s Hands

Picnik, a popular name known among those photographers out there, is now on the verge of being shut down. According to the staff from Picnik, Google has acquired the photo editing giant and this in turn takes Picnik’s life to Google+. For months, Picnik has proved to be a loyal photo editing tool for the Google+ users, and now, once the site closes down, all the members of the Picnik team join Google and get a place in Google+

The site is now all set to be shut down this coming April 19 of this year. As of now, Picnik is sending out notices to all the customers, regarding it’s shutting down and about it’s huge success that lays ahead. In the words of Picnik, it can be put as,

Since joining Google in 2010, we have been creating editing magic in Google products while continuing to keep Picnik awesome. But now we get to focus on even awesomer things. Picnik will be closing on April 19, 2012.

While Picnik gets shut down as a separate entity, all the loyal users Picnik had will get their photos either moved to their Google+ account or get an option to download the photos to their desktop. If you don’t own a Google+ account, this step compels you to create your own Google+ account, which in turn takes up Google on a profit ladder. On the other hand, you can  download the photos right to your desktop, rather than creating an account in Google+

With Picnik shutting down, this official information proves to be a huge loss to the loyal users. But the thing is that, Picnik is giving a big thanks to it’s users. If you are a premium user of Picnik, within a couple of weeks time, you will get all your money refunded! Picnik says, This means even if you are on your very last day of an annual membership, we will refund you the entire $24.95. Just because we want to say thanks. Isn’t that cool?

While the premium users get this awesome offer from Picnik, there is a much more better surprise for the free users of Picnik. Being a free user confirms the fact that, they get less number of features Picnik provides. But now, as per the official note, Picnik is giving out all the premium features to the free users, free of charge!! If you don’t have an account in Picnik, you will not be able to create one right now, unfortunately. Until the last date, the date of shutdown, you are free to use the premium features Picnik provides.

After it’s end, you will find all those features in Google+’s photo editing kit. If you are an avid Google+ user, you would have noticed that Google+ has a pretty cool feature called the Creative Kit, which consists nothing other than the photo editing tools that Picnik provides.

And finally, it’s a good bye to Picnik. Thanks for that awesome tool which changed the way digital photography worked. Thank you Picnik! – From the Axleration team
