Google at it’s I/O event revealed some great info about the next version of Android. The next version of Android will be called as Ice Cream Sandwich and it will be an unified OS for smartphones, Tablets, Netbooks and Google TV.
This is one great news, and now developers can create an app for a single platform which will be used across a wide variety of devices. Google is calling it “One OS” and like its ancestors Ice Cream Sandwich will also be open source, and will include advanced app framework, UI enhancements, face-tracking and much more.
Google announced that Ice Cream Sandwich will be available by Q4 of this year. As it is said to unify the GingerBread smartphone software and Honeycomb Tablet ware, we can understand that smartphones won’t be getting a Honeycomb update.
But this Ice Cream Sandwich update for smartphones would be huge since they’ll bring the beautiful Honeycomb interface to smartphones too. This new update is expected to have great new features like, re-sizable widgets, support for peripherals and much more.
Many other features still remains secret, we’ll update you as and when we know it. Ice Cream Sandwich will surely take mobile computing to greater heights and it is really a boon for consumers as well as developers.
