Top 6 Scariest Games of All Time

Horror games are loved by most of us. The spine-tingling tension they give to us, is unique. With advancement in graphics and animation technologies, games are all the more realistic and look amazingly stunning, and when these come to a horror themed game, then it would set us all in fear.

A good horror game should not lose its tempo from the beginning till the end. So what are you waiting for, take a look at the list and pick one, turn of the lights, turn up the volume and start freaking out !

Here I have listed 6 games which I feel is some of the most scary/horror games of all time. All the games are rated M for Mature, so if you are too young for it don’t try them 😛

1. Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2 is set during the aftermath of an apocalyptic pandemic, and focuses on four survivors fighting against hordes of the infected, who develop severe psychosis and act zombie-like. The survivors must fight their way through levels, interspersed with safe houses that act as checkpoints, with the goal of reaching a rescue vehicle at the campaign’s finale.

The gameplay is procedurally altered by an artificial intelligence engine dubbed the “Director” that monitors the players’ performance and adjust thescenario to provide a dynamic challenge. Several new features have been introduced: new types of infected, melee weapons, and a story-arc that connects the game’s five campaigns together.

2. Resident Evil 5

Chris Redfield, hero from the original Resident Evil game, is back in Resident Evil 5. Set 10 years since the events of the first game Resident Evil 5 takes place in a fictionalized west African region. Chris and Sheva Alomar are on a mission to capture an arms dealer before he is able to sell a bio weapon on the black market. Along the way they encounter scores of parasite infected zombies know as Majini.

3. Left 4 Dead

Set during the aftermath of an apocalyptic pandemic, the game pits its four protagonists—dubbed the “Survivors”—against hordes of the infected. There are four game modes: a single-player mode in which allied characters are controlled by AI; a four-player, co-op campaign mode; an eight-player online versus mode; and a four-player survival mode.

In all modes, an artificial intelligence (AI), dubbed the “Director”, controls level pacing and item placements, in an attempt to create a dynamic experience and increase replay value.

4. BioShock

Set in an alternate history 1960, the game places the player in the role of a plane crash survivor named Jack, who must explore theunderwater city of Rapture, and survive attacks by the mutated beings and mechanical drones that populate it. The game incorporates elements found in role-playing and survival games, and is described by the developers and Levine as a “spiritual successor” to their previous titles in the System Shock series. The game received overwhelmingly positive reviews, which praised its “morality-based” storyline, immersive environment and its unique setting, inspired by Objectivist philosophy and rhetoric.

5. System Shock 2

The game takes place on board a starship in a cyberpunk depiction of 2114. The player assumes the role of a lone soldier trying to stem the outbreak of a genetic infection that has devastated the ship. Like System Shock, gameplay consists of first person shooting and exploration.

The game also incorporates role-playing system elements, where the player can develop unique skills and traits, such as hacking and psionic abilities.

6. F.E.A.R

The game’s story revolves around a supernatural phenomenon, which F.E.A.R.—a fictional special forces team—is called to contain. The player assumes the role of F.E.A.R.’s Point Man, who possesses superhuman reflexes, and must uncover the secrets of a paranormal menace in the form of a little girl.
