The title may look absurd. How a new file format may prevent cutting of trees ? Yeah, it can. WWF is a new file format developed by the folks at WWF (Not Wrestling, It is the World Wide Fund for Nature, remember the organisation with the giant panda logo ? It is the same organisation). So what does it do ?
The WWF format is a PDF that cannot be printed out. It’s a simple way to avoid unnecessary printing. So here’s your chance to save trees and help the environment. Simple Right ? WWF is just a mod of the famous PDF format, but with the print option missing. You cannot print files saved in this format, thus saving trees by encouraging e-sharing and discouraging printing in paper.
Every day, entire forests are cut down to make paper. Paper that’s senselessly used to print out documents all over the world: websites, emails, even entire books, in spite of the fact that it’s easy to avoid printing by saving the document as a PDF. But even PDFs can sometimes also be printed out. So to stop unnecessary printing and encourage a new awareness about the use of paper, we’ve developed a new, green file format: WWF. A format that can’t be printed out. A simple idea that saves trees. Join in. Decide for yourself which of your documents don’t need printing – and save them as WWF.
SAVE AS WWF, SAVE A TREE
Most of the PDF readers can read the WWF format. You can Download the necessary software package from their site. This is a great idea. Hope you will also support this movement and help make the environment better. Let’s do our part ! 😉
